Chevron Corp., the nation's second-largest oil producer, plans to cut 2,000 jobs from departments including refining, marketing and retail operations.
The San Ramon-based company said in a statement Tuesday that it would cut spending by $1 billion this year in its "downstream businesses."
The company didn't say if the cuts would affect its Bay Area operations. In addition to its headquarters, Chevron's Bay Area units include its Richmond refinery, the region's largest.
